主讲人简介
T. Donna Chen is Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, Virginia, USA). She holds B.S., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University, University of Texas at Arlington, and University of Texas at Austin, respectively. Her research focuses on sustainable transportation systems (in particular modeling the impacts of new vehicle technologies systems on traveler behavior and the environment), travel demand modeling, transportation economics, and crash safety. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Chen worked in the consulting industry as a transportation planning engineer and has experience with roadway design, cost estimation, and traffic operation analyses. Dr. Chen is involved in the Transportation Research Board (TRB), the American Society of Civil Engineers Transportation & Development Institute (ASCE TD&I), Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS).
主讲内容简介
Increasing, experts are forecasting the future of mobility to be shared, autonomous, and electric. In this talk, Professor Chen will address three bodies of ongoing research in her group which simulates operations of shared autonomous electric vehicles (SAEVs) to explore opportunities and challenges with this new transportation mode. Using agent-based simulation frameworks, this research uses relevant travel demand and transportation network data across various regions in the USA to examine tradeoffs in vehicle and charging infrastructure type on door-to-door service SAEV fleet operation efficiency, under single occupant and multi-occupant settings. A case study of SAEVs used for first/last mile mobility services using Seattle-based data will also be presented. Lastly, the presentation highlights some challenges with managing SAEVs when integrated with a smart electricity grid, demonstrating smart charging management under static and real-time pricing schemes as well as with solar generation.
